ARTHUR BISHOP CHAMBERLIN [11]
Born: 12 March 1865, Solon, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio, USA.
Died: 28 September 1933, Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., Minnesota, USA.
Married: 18 January 1885, Georgiana Wood, daughter of Andrew Wood and Mary J. Wood.
Children: Mermon C., Helene, Gladys Elizabeth, David Holmes.

Arthur was a prominent architect, architectural illustrator, and 33rd degree Mason in Seattle, Washington, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.
His career began in Minneapolis where he worked as a draftsman 1884-1889 with Long & Kees, Architects.
He arrived in Seattle in 1890 and was employed as draftsman and delineator by Saunders & Houghton 1890-91, by John Parkinson, 1891-93, then by William Boone in 1893.
In these years he was the delineator of a majority of drawings of Seattle architectural work published in the professional press.
He developed his consummate rendering skills under Harvey Ellis, considered a leading architectural delineator of his day.
These illustrations appeared primarily in such journals as American Architect and Northwester Architect.
From 1893 to 1894, he practiced alone as a Seattle architect and is known for his design of the landmark Collins Building, Seattle (1893).
The Collins building is in the National Registry for Historical Places covering Pioneer Square, Seattle.
In 1894-95, he partnered with Carl Siebrand, Chamberlin & Siebrand, and designed the two-room Denny-Fuhman School, Seattle (1894, now altered and part of Seward School complex.
In 1896, he practiced alone before moving back to Minneapolis.

When construction came to a standstill in Seattle, Arthur returned to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and soon partnered with George Bertrand.
Bertrand & Chamberlin were responsible for several important buildings in the area including the Minneapolis Athletic Club, Minnesota Masonic Home, and Minneapolis Auditorium.

Arthur Bishop Chamberlin was my grandfather.
Arthur died 11 years before I was born and it wasn't until I entered college and decided to become an architect that I became aware of my grandfather's occupation.
It has only been in recent years that I have been able to research and discover the extent of some of my grandfather's work.
